Going for the Summit

Matt and I have recently been reading Into Thin Air by John Krakauer. The book is a personal account of the 1996 disaster on Everest. It is a thrilling book, to say the least. Since we have been reading this book, everything in our lives has started to revolve around "summiting." Our newly written Christmas goals (we're starting early this year!) on the fridge are written next to our new mantra "REACH THE SUMMIT!" We have made a calendar flaunting Everest's image. We even read our scriptures snuggling together imagining ourselves reaching the Hillary Step.
Everest is woven into our everday lives.
Toby made the most recent Everest application.
On Saturday, he completed a solo grocery shopping trip. I was working on a homework assignment at the library with cute Summer Staheli. When I came home Toby approached me with pride.

He stated, "Annie, going grocery shopping by myself, as a boy, is the equivalent to summiting Everest with supplemental oxygen."

I look at him and question, "Supplemental oxygen?"

"Yes," he replied, "I had a grocery list."

Well done, young Matthew, well done.

ok if that was indeed a direct quote from matt i LOVE that he referred to himself as a boy!
Oh and I feel the need to make a correction. We aren't living back east. We are still in Sunny St. george. Brock's MBA program is through DUKE and is the Cross Continental program meaning he commutes. Just wanted to clear that up. I hear it is lovely back there and some days I wish we were there.
